Introduction :
This short
course will introduce candidates to the techniques and knowledge needed to
financially plan, manage and control construction projects. It will look at construction projects from
inception to completion. Whilst the
course will not address processes relating to maintenance and management of
facilities after project completion, it will take into account the life cycle
costing at the feasibility and planning stage.
Course Contents :
Feasibility
study at project inception :
residual method, assessing income vs cost , cost
value analysis, Financial appraisal techniques (e.g. present worth , discounted
cash flow yield, etc.)
Financial
management at project planning stage :
Capital Costing, Life Cycle costing , Financing , Cash Flow Analysis, Crash
Costing.
Financial
control : Cost control systems, Work Breakdown Structure,
Cost Variances and Earned Value Analysis, Customer and Management Reporting,
Cost Value reconciliation sheets.
Payment
systems/mechanisms :
Traditional interim valuation, milestones and stage payments, incentive based
payment systems, public private partnerships (private finance initiatives).
Financial
Management at organizational level :
Project based organizations, Corporate Planning, Annual Budgets, Financial
Control at organizational level.
